AHQ adopts a charity each year to support with created items, donated items, and money. Over the years, many different local and national charities have benefited from the work of guild members. Some of the current charities being supported are:
Ballad Health Cancer Care Center in Johnson City- Provides a wide variety of medical services, as well as compassion, kindness, and encouragement to cancer patients and their families. Guild members make chemo port pillows, caps, and lap quilts for patients undergoing treatment.
Agape Women’s Services in Johnson City- Provides confidential pregnancy testing, ultrasound exams, and other support services and counseling to pregnant women and new mothers. Quilts and other items for the newborns and new mothers are made and donated to the women who use Agape’s services and attend the classes.
Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City-Quilts and pillowcases are made for the children to use at the hospital and take home when they leave.
Quilts of Valor- Quilts are made and donated to recognize the sacrifice of former military service men and women nationwide. Some guild members also provide long-arming services and sew on bindings for the quilts.
Hope House of Kingsport-A residential housing program located in Kingsport that provides support, hope, and direction to expectant mothers facing unplanned pregnancies. Quilts are made for both the mothers and children living in the home, and those who attend educational classes held at their Resource Center in Kingsport.
Washington and Sullivan County Animal Shelters – Beds made from quilting scraps are donated for dogs and cats at the shelter.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace -A nationwide program of volunteers who build, assemble, and deliver bunk beds to children and families in need. Twin-size quilts are made and donated for the beds.
Isaiah 117 House – Provides a comforting home where children removed from their homes out of concern for their safety can stay temporarily. They receive clean clothes, smiles, toys, and snuggly blankets and quilts made by some of our guild members.
